  1. This would be on the corner of Dwight and Verona Streets. The American Stopper Company was founded in 1900 but in 1916 was absorbed by the American Can Co and became known as The American Can Co Stopper Factory.

  2. Thanks for the historic information Mike.
Are you a Red Hook resident?

  3. I have been researching The American Stopper Company for some years even though I am a resident of Sydney, Australia

    • My great-great grandmother was a worker at the American Can Company in Brooklyn on 3rd Avenue for over 30 years. Im trying to find information on the company and when it closed as well as older picture of the building and the neighborhood. Any advice?

      • If the company was registered in NY State, there is a state agency that keeps records of extant and defunct businesses. They keep when they incorporated and why they closed. I think its the NYS Board of Corporations.

  4. I recently purchased a tin for “Quinine Pills 2 Grains” and on the back the label reads :

    AM Stopper Co.
    Brooklyn — Tin Boxes — N.Y.U.S.A

Would you have any more information on this item?

    Thanks, Toni

  5. Toni Sure! Take a picture of it and send it to me!

  6. I’ve taken photos of the top and bottom of the tin and don’t know how to attach them to this message. Please advise.

  7. DO YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION ON THE AMERICAN CAN CO CINCINNATI FACTORY
