The 1896 Hutwelker Building, a former stables – Forgotten-NY
This impressive building of 1896 vintage originally housed the wholesale grocery business of Charles Hutwelker, who started a meat packing business in Brooklyn in 1884. Hutwelker died in 1924. The sign on top of the building is an enduring monument to his success.
Some additional photos and a location map of the Hutwelker Building are available at: http://www.brooklynlofts.com/lofts.asp
Thanks for the history and the additional links.
Great pictures! Charles Hutwelker was one of my grandfathers (can’t remember which one, great or great-great, great-great-great, etc.) But it’s nice to see these pics on here! Thanks!
